June 14 - New Franklin to Jefferson City, MO (46 mi.)

Since Susi was scheduled to meet me at the North Jefferson Katy Trail Head around noon, I got off to a 7:00 AM start. Pedaling on crushed limestone was a little slower than I remembered but I made pretty good time. This being the second time traveling the Katy Trail, I noticed thinks that I hadn't the first time and tried to take time to get photos, though some are the same as are posted in my 2012 tour. Being Saturday there were many cyclists on the trail mostly from Columbia, MO which has an 8 mile connector to the Katy or from Jefferson City, MO. It was a cool morning with clear blue skies and perfect for cycling. There was a bit of a breeze from the east but since most of the trail is under tree cover, this was not really a factor. Susi and I connected by phone at 11:00 AM when I was still an hour away. It turned out she was two hours away so I stopped and had lunch at a small cafe. We arrived at the trail head at nearly the same time. I wish I had had better information for her to get to the trail head, but all I knew was the proximity of major highways. She found me with only a little trouble. We checked into the Baymont Inn & Suites at 2:00 PM but could not get into the room until 3:00 PM so I changed out of my cycling clothes and we drove the short distance to the Missouri State Capital & Museum. We toured the grounds and the entire inside of the building. Very nice (though no gold leaf dome like Iowa's - but I'll bet the Missouri tax payers are happy about that). We had a very nice time and witnessed a wedding near what we believe is the governor's mansion. Beautiful, but it looked like everyone was baking in the sun. We said our "I do's" again too. We came back and got our room, I cleaned up and we walked to a bistro next door and had a delicious dinner followed by ice cream at a drive-in close by. What a day; 1/2 day cycling a beautiful trail on a terrific day followed by hooking up with my gal for a great afternoon.

I've decided to leave the iPad and computer with Susi and do future blog posts with my cell phone. There won't be any photos unless I take them with the phone and the descriptions may be a bit brief. I've decided doing the blog with photos takes so much time and this is time better spent meeting people, doing other things and generally enjoying the experience. I'll continue taking photos and will update the blog posts after the trip is over.
