November 3 - Thursday; Returning to Complete the Tour!!
Susi is doing very well. She had the drain tube removed from her chest this afternoon which makes her more mobile. I've been researching ways to return to the tour if I could do so in time to complete a significant portion of what remains. Given Susi's progress and with the OK from Ray, the tour leader, I have booked air travel to Pensacola, Florida on November 8 arriving early evening. This should allow me to ride west and meet the tour group at Gulf Shores the evening of November 9. If not, I'll meet up with them as they pass through Pensacola on November 10. My bike and most of my gear is still in Houston, Texas so I'll be riding a backup bike and different gear. I'll be riding my older Trek 1000 road bike and pulling a Burley Nomad trailer graciously being loaned to me by my riding partner Al Willis - Thanks Al. The rest of the trip that I'll be riding is about 700 miles so this equipment will get me there. I'll have missed about 600 miles of the trip but by finishing with the group and riding through Florida I don't think I'll feel a need to go back next spring and complete the entire route. This will free me to pick a completely different bike route for 2012.
